Project Synopsis
While texting Mitchell, a boy she met online who lives on the other side of the country, Mona imagines three scenarios that might occur if he came to visit.
Character 1
Mona
Age
18-30
Gender
Female
Description
Mona is a hopeless romantic who has been hopelessly used, abused, and confused when it comes to love. After a traumatic break up from her ex-boyfriend and a extended dry spell, she decides to finally download a dating app. She finds solace in these virtual connections because she can avoid physical intimacy and further heartbreak. Despite that, Mitchell reminds her why people waste their time falling in love. She’s missed this feeling. As she imagines the scenarios that might play out if he came to visit her, it sinks in - there’s only one way this ends - more heartbreak. She realizes the only way to not lose the game, is to not play.
Character 2
Mitchell
Age
18-30
Gender
Male
Description
Mitchell is a typical manic pixie dream boy - he is simply a tool for Mona’s imagination. A prop to teach Mona the lessons she needs to learn. Playing on the classic trope isn’t to demean him, but rather portray that the version of him she has convinced herself she’s in love with is an idealized version of him that doesn’t really exist and switch the narrative often projected onto women. In the first 2 imagined scenarios, he embodies Mona’s greatest fears and insecurities. However, the final version of Mitchell is the version that feels exactly the same way as her. This version is the one she’s been looking for her whole life.
