Project Synopsis
Hurricane Diane. Dionysus. . . God of vegetation, fruitfulness, wine, fertility, ecstasy, insanity, ritual madness … theatre. An Ancient Goddess, powerful and irresistible, who has come to the suburbs of New Jersey in the form of a queer masc woman and disguised as a gardener. Her goal; to convert the tidy homeowners of the cul-de-sac into her thralls and acolytes, to rebuild an ancient cult of ritual and carnal pleasure, and subvert the concrete land of curbs and lawns and fences into the battleground against the wrath of climate change - one garden at a time. As a Hurricane whips its way up the coast, and the suburban ladies hum and haw over the benefits of indigenous plants and permaculture, an argument about landscaping suddenly becomes the crux upon which the fate of the world hinges.

Additional Characters

Garden - Two to Four movement actors will play the ‘role’ of the gardens in the Cul-De-Sac, slowly becoming wilder and more chaotic. Severe poses held with perfect stillness, interrupted by flowing, sudden, frightening, movement. Physically interact with the characters and with the audience. Not a spoken role, other than soft chanting and occasional wailing. If auditioning specifically for the Garden, and not any of the other roles, please prepare a movement piece of max one minute, with or without music.
