Project Synopsis
“Panorama” is a dramatic short film focusing on unresolved family histories, memory, and the longing for human connection. The story follows Sarah, a foreign working professional, and Erin, an older woman determined to reach her daughter’s (possibly imagined) film premiere. Past traumas and hopes intertwine in their tense Uber ride, unravelling deep-seated memories while hinting at opportunities for reconciliation.
Character 1
Erin
Age
40s-50s
Gender
Female
Description
[South Asian] Erin is a mentally unstable yet tender-hearted woman who fervently believes she is on her way to her daughter’s movie premiere—though it’s unclear if this daughter or premiere truly exists. She dresses in a way that’s slightly out of place and loves to “mother” people, offering advice and scolding them (politely) if they don’t follow her lead. Despite her fragile mental state, she exudes a purity of heart. Reference: Michelle Yeoh’s grounding yet humorous vulnerability in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Key Traits: Strong dramatic range to show both maternal warmth and sudden confusion or sadness. A touch of comedic timing in her persistent nagging and off-kilter fashion.
Character 2
Sarah's Father
Age
Early to late 30s
Gender
Male
Description
[Caucasian] Featured in a flashback. A handsome, hardworking professional (teacher or accountant). Family is the center of his universe, giving him purpose. In this nostalgic memory, he is loving and hopeful, yet in the present, he’s facing dementia, adding strain to his marriage.
Character 3
Sarah's Mother
Age
Early to late 30s
Gender
Female
Description
[South Asian] A pretty, forward-looking woman brimming with love and optimism for her family’s future. Shares a special bond with young Sarah; this is a time of hope and joyous possibilities.
Character 4
Young Sarah
Age
5-10
Gender
Female
Description
[South Asian] Bubbly, curious child who looks at the world with wide-eyed wonder. Influenced by the strong female leads she watches in movies, dreaming of becoming a lawyer one day. Key Traits: Innocent charm and readiness to explore. Comfortable following simple direction; able to convey childlike curiosity and joy
Character 5
Fake Film Male Lead
Age
30-40s
Gender
Male
Description
(Any ethnicity) Charismatic, comedic-turned-romantic lead with rich “Californian/British” flair. Think Hugh Grant/Tom Cruise type vibe. Portrays a producer/mentor figure who finds himself in an unlikely romance with the younger female artist.
Additional Characters

Fake Film Female Lead: (Early to Late 20s, South Asian) A vibrant young singer-artist on the verge of a breakthrough. Initially at odds with the older male lead, but grows into a romantic storyline. MUSICAL TALENT A PLUS.

Uber Driver: (any age, any ethnicity) Comfortable driving on camera; valid driver’s license needed. Minimal or non-speaking role with subtle reactions.
